Mermaid Songs

$20.00

This is a collection of 5 pieces for soprano and piano telling the story of a mermaid who has had her heart broken and is seeking solace from the pain in the wrong.

I. Song Under the Moon - (B3-A5)

Is the song of a mermaid singing up to the Moon asking it to take away the pain of heart break. She has been left by the woman she loved and is now begging the moon to take away the memories and the feelings that now wrack her with pain.

II. Song From the Crescent - (Eb4-Ab5)

The response from the Moon, counselling the mermaid that it cannot simple take away the love that she still feels, and that only Time can heal a broken heart. The Moon beseeches her to come to its arms where she can rest and find the strength to heal.

III. Song Over the Sea - (C#4-F#5)

The mermaid has switched to asking the Sea now for a quick resolution of her pain. She asks it to douse the fire of love that’s still burning in her but now has nowhere to go and so scorches her.

IV. Song From the Depths - (Db4-Ab5)

The Sea’s response is once again not what she was seeking. It counsels her that peace will come with time and rest. It tells her to let herself be patient and relax and let her heart calm down from its enflamed state so as to find the ability to love again.

V. Song of the Siren - (C#4-A5)

Learning nothing from the lessons offered to her the mermaid has become enraged. Angered by the Moon and the Sea refusing to help her she decided that she will use this pain and this hatred to help others: she will save other people from feeling the same way that she does. She will become a siren and sing others to their deaths to save them from experiencing the torture of heartbreak.
